Offset printing is a commonly used printing technique where the inked image is transferred (or "offset") from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface. The pros and cons are:

  • Colour matching of PMS colours can be superior to CMYK reproduction of digital output. Colour consistency is also more controllable on an offset press.
  • Offset printing allows for the use of a wide range of papers and finishes with excellent results.
  • For longer runs-usually 1,000 or more-offset printing is typically more affordable.

  • Setup costs for plates, print setup, ink colour are higher which increase the costs of shorter runs.
  • Offset printing applies ink to paper and therefore requires time to dry before it can be finished.
